Monthly Active Users vs. External Users

Hello,

I would like to understand the difference between monthly active users and external active users.

On the one hand in the support page (https://support.auth0.com/search?q=monthly%20active%20users%20vs%20external%20active%20users) its is mentioned that external users are a subset of all manthly active users that have a different domain.

On the other hand in the subscription plans the number of MAU varies from 500 to 20,000 while the external active users count is up to 100,000 which does not follow the logic is external being a susbset of MAU.

Could you explain what number should we rely on when choosing a plan for users with a different domain: MAU or external active users?

Hi @eytan.h and welcome back to the Auth0 Community!

Thank you for posting your question. During my research, I came across this post with a similar topic. As my colleague said, the terms MAU (Monthly Active Users) and EAU (External Active Users) are synonymous and are used interchangeably.

Regarding the limits you see in the subscription plans, they can be read as “currently the limit is 500 active users, with the possibility to increase the limit to 100.000 active users”

Please let me know if this is not clear, and I will help you as much as I can!
