Trying to better understand the MAU and EAU (external active users) difference
We have an essentials plan for 7.500 MAU quota all the time
When I check the plan description it says 7.500 MAU, but 100.000 External Active Users
I’m confused about the difference
so far there was a point according to the monthly reports when we had around 30.000 EAU
I assume if we exceeded the MAU quota that much we would have been charged way more, still that month payment was regular as per plan.
Could you please help me understand how these entities refer to each other and if there’s any way to extend the quota beyond 100.000 EAU if that’s hard limit or know more about pricing per user after the threshold is exceeded.
The MAU (Monthly Active Users) and EAUs (External Active Users) refer to the number of users who log in at least once per calendar month per tenant. (Reference: About the Quarterly Snapshot)
The MAUs and EAUs terminology are synonymous.
In your situation, you are allowed up to 100,000 MAUs/EAUs. At the moment, your current plan allows for 7,500 MAUs/EAUs. These refer to the limits for end-users logging in to your app per calendar month per tenant.
Thank you for the answer, a m a bit confused with the wording. Could you please provide me some use cases or real life example of what is authentication(…“authenticated with any connection”)?
Basically, we have a plan of our product expansion and expect to acquire more customers soon, and we use auth0 for our social network login option. We want to calculate the quota we need to upgrade in order to handle all of the new customers. Should we refer to MAU or EAU metric for this case or both?
Thank you! That explains a lot
Final question here - I’m a bit confused with External Active users quota for each plan
I see that it says up to 100.000 in the Essentials plan that we have now, however in the current plan section it shows 7.500.
We currently pay for a $525 tier and it appears that we do not need that much MAU Quota. If we downgrade to Essentials with 500 MAU quota will we still be eligible for up to 100.000 External MAU? Or external mau quota is also scaled along with general MAU?
That’s what confusing me since all the plans are focused around MAU but we do not really need high MAU tier, at the same time we need pretty high External MAU quantity
If you decide to downgrade to the Essentials plan with 500 MAUs, you will be eligible for up to 100,000 MAUs.
I have managed to reach out to our product team and clarified that MAUs and EAUs are synonymous and made the correction in my previous replies.
Given your custom agreement of 7500 MAUs, you can upgrade to as many as 20,000 MAUs when subscribing through the Dashboard. Beyond 30,000 MAUs, you would need to speak with our Sales team regarding this custom tier upgrade on your Essentials plan.
“If you decide to downgrade to the Essentials plan with 500 MAUs, you will be eligible for up to 100,000 MAUs.” For me this statement is either contradicting itself or I still do not fully understand how the quota and pricing co-exist
The plan literally says 500 MAUs, how come we are eligible for up to 100.000?
Lets’ say we do downgrade, to 500 MAU, which is $35. If the number of External active users reaches 90k next month - what will be the price? $35? or the plan will be somehow scaled accordingly?
I’m really confused with what this number of “up to 100.000” stands for and how the actual number of MAU we will have will correlate with chosen plan and actual pricing
I would appreciate if someone from the Sales team also reaches me back to my personal email which is yevhen.kucherenko@warpjump.net, to clarify pricing for the tiers past 100k
This is because the Essentials plan base tier offers 500 MAUs at $35/month, and you have the option to purchase up to 100,000 MAUs. To do that, you will need to contact our Sales team for the exact pricing.
In your current plan, you have paid for 7,500 MAUs at $525/month, and if you decide to purchase 100,000 MAUs, the price for the plan will increase accordingly.
If you decide to exceed 100,000 MAUs, which is the MAUs limit for the Essentials and Professional plan, you must opt for the Enterprise plan for MAU custom tiers.
I recommend contacting your TAM at tam@auth0.com to discuss modifying your current subscription plan.
