Overview
This article provides steps to recover administrator access to a tenant. This situation occurs when the sole administrator, such as an employee or contractor, departs from an organization without delegating administrative access to another individual.
Applies To
- Auth0 Tenant
- Auth0 Admins
Solution
Attempt the following methods to regain administrator access to the tenant:
- If access to the former administrator’s email account is available:
- Navigate to the login page.
- Request a password reset for the administrator account.
- Follow the instructions received via email to reset the password.
- If another administrator has access to the tenant:
- The existing administrator can remove the former administrator’s account.
- The existing administrator can add a new administrator account.
NOTE: It is recommended to have multiple administrators on a tenant to prevent loss of access.
If the above methods are unsuccessful, particularly if the former administrator was the sole administrator and their account is protected with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) that is inaccessible, a support request must be created. Access may be granted after verification of tenant ownership.
To create a support request:
- Sign in to
community.auth0.com
. - Send a direct message to @support.
- Include the following information in the message:
- A detailed explanation of the issue
- Tenant name
- Email address of the locked-out tenant administrator
NOTE: Community staff will validate the request and create a support ticket.
