The likely answer is that the key is incorrect.
This could be due to how it was copy/pasted. This SO thread goes through various syntax related issues that cause the mismatch.
Thank you for all the help @dan.woda. Looking at your suggested solutions, I recreated IAM credentials (access/secret keys) and it worked.
