Universal Login (Identifier First): Disabled 'Continue' button after going back

Description:

When logging into any universal login powered page, when going back in the flow the user is stuck because the ‘Continue’ button is disabled.

In addition, it is not possible to remove the email, and start over - the button stays disabled.

The frozen ‘Continue’ button happens for both federated AD-logins and email / password logins.

Please note: It’s Universal Login in general that has this bug, therefore all our tenants are also affected.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Login to auth0.com
  2. Type email, hit ‘Continue’
  3. Go back in browser
  4. Button is disabled

Browsers:

Note: Firefox is not affected.

Kind regards, Jakob

ps.: I can’t upload a screenshot getting: ‘An error occurred: Sorry, you can’t embed media items in a post.’

It’s something with the built-in password manager. If I use Bitwarden, the button is enabled again.

Related and unresolved ticket: Universal Login + Identifier First + Back button edge-case

Hi @jaad

Welcome to the Auth0 Community!

The reported behaviour seems to be intended at the moment as a script prevents double submission of the form and causes the page to be unresponsive. Alongside the topic that you shared, this was also mentioned in our Support Article on Universal Login: “Continue” Button Becomes Unresponsive After Using the Browser’s Back Button that I recommend looking through.

We recognize how this can be problematic and would encourage you to submit Product Feedback on the matter, as our Product team monitors the page for highly voted submissions. More votes that other users cast on your Feedback can help create interest and drive further development.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us for any other issues or requests.

Have a great one!

I have submitted an internal ticket with the hope that it’ll be seen as what it really is, an unacceptable bug, and for sure, not a feature to be voted on.

And I doubt that you have to prevent form submissions when hitting the browser back button… And as mentioned, it works with Bitwarden password manager.
