Problem Statement
Users in China are experiencing issues with latency or an inability to login.
Symptoms
If the Great Firewall (GFW) of China decides to block/limit AWS (which would include Auth0) then there would be:
- Trouble reaching our CDN https://cdn.auth0.com
- Delays talking to *.auth0.com domains
- Inability/delay to reach *.auth0.com domains as described
- Inability/delay to reach any custom domains that have been configured in an Auth0 tenant
Solution
There are a number of factors that may affect the quality of service in China. The availability of the Auth0 service to users in China is likely to be affected by changes that the Chinese government makes to the Great Firewall of China (GFW), in addition to quality of internet service/local proxy. If the GFW decides to block/limit AWS (which would include Auth0) then there would be:
- Trouble reaching our CDN https://cdn.auth0.com
- Delays talking to *.auth0.com domains
- Inability/delay to reach *.auth0.com domains as described
- Inability/delay to reach any custom domains that have been configured in an Auth0 tenant
This is all compounded by the fact that there has been reported bandwidth limitations of the GFW which spikes latency.
For the factors mentioned above, Auth0 does not have any guarantees related to service in China.
