I’m looking for guidance on a scenario I’ve encountered during my trial period.
Scenario:
Added a new email as a Tenant Member with Administrator role
The dashboard showed the new email as “verified” with Admin privileges
Removed the original tenant owner email, assuming the new admin had full access
Both accounts now redirect to the “Create new tenant” onboarding wizard
Neither account can access the existing tenant dashboard
Questions:
Is there a difference between “Tenant Member with Administrator role” and actual tenant ownership?
Is there an invitation acceptance step or activation process required before removing the original owner?
How can someone recover from this situation where a tenant has no accessible administrators?
Does Auth0 support have a process for restoring admin access with proper ownership verification?
Context:
The tenant is actively serving production traffic and authentication continues working for end users, but the management dashboard is inaccessible. As a trial account user, I don’t have access to the support ticket system.
Has anyone encountered this situation or know the correct recovery process?
A tenant administrator has full access to a specific Auth0 tenant’s settings and resources, while a team owner has broader permissions over an entire Auth0 account, including the ability to manage all tenants within the account, control tenant creation, or manage subscriptions.
Invitation acceptance is a mandatory step. A new Tenant Member must click the email link, log in/sign up, and explicitly accept the invitation to link their user account to the tenant with the Administrator role. If the original Owner was removed before this full process was completed, the new user’s access was not fully provisioned, causing the lockout.
We can help in this cases, no worries about it. Please send us a DM to the @support group, including a short explanation of the issue, the email account that you wish to be tied to the that particular tenant ( a former admin account ), and the tenant name and we will fulfill a request on your behalf.
Of course there is! With proper ownership verification you can restore the admin access of your tenant. Details are included in this article - Recover Admin Access to a Tenant.
