Error Enabling Domain Connection for a Third-Party Application

Overview

This article explains the following error that occurs when attempting to enable a domain connection for a third-party application:

Client <client_id> isn’t first party. Only first-party clients can be enabled for a connection.

Applies To

  • Third-Party Applications
  • Domain Connections

Cause

This behavior is expected. An application designated as “third-party” is designed to use only domain-level connections, which are enabled implicitly.

Solution

No action is required to enable the connection for a third-party client. When the connection is a domain connection and the application is a third-party application, the connection is enabled by default. The Auth0 dashboard does not explicitly show this status because the connection is enabled implicitly. Third-party clients will automatically use the domain connections.
