Customizing the "New Universal Login Page"

Dear all, fairly new to Auth0, but could due with some guidance.

We are using the “New Universal Login Page” and this defaults to the email address under the “Username or email address”, how do i have it default to the username always ? this is the only change i want on the New ULP.

doing some research it looks like i have to modify the behaviour of the lock widget but is this done via the management API ? any examples ?

It sounds like you want to implement the “identifier first” solution. This doc explains how it works.
