Asterisk "*" on New Universal Login Elements

Overview

The New Universal Login page seems to be appending an asterisk “*” to mandatory fields such as email, password, etc.

This was not the case as of early 2024, so this article clarifies this change.

Cause

These were added as a part of Auth0’s WCAG Compliance effort. They are not configurable at this time.

Solution

The asterisk “*” is displayed as a visual indication for the required form fields (such as the “Email” field on the login page). This is currently non-configurable, please consider opening a Feature Request if this behavior should be configurable and the Auth0 Product Team will review.

Note that this behavior is present regardless of whether the tenant has the WCAG 2.2 AA Compliant option enabled or not under Universal Login > Advanced Options > Settings > Accessibility
