Wordpress "Login by Auth0" ... v4 or v5?

I’m trying to set up the “Login by Auth0” plugin on a Wordpress site, but I’m confused about which version is considered supported and documented.

If I try to install the plugin via the wp-admin UI (as directed in the Auth0 documentation), I am presented with the v4 plugin and there’s not even mention of a newer v5 release.

If I go to the open source project on GitHub, I find the message “v4 of the plugin is no longer supported as of June 2023. We are no longer providing new features or bugfixes for that release. Please upgrade to v5 as soon as possible.” Which isn’t possible unless I am prepared download the plugin source by hand and build.

I’m asking because I couldn’t get the v4 plugin set up properly on a modern WordPress site, and I can’t get the v5 plugin to install and activate at all.

Can someone clarify what is the appropriate Wordpress plugin version to use, and where is the correct documentation for that?

thanks

Hi @neilo,

Welcome to the Auth0 Community!

I am sorry for the misunderstanding from the documentation. Our engineering team is aware of the discrepancy and are working on an update, but unfortunately we do not have an ETA.

As outlined in the Github repository we no longer provide support for the 4.x version of the Wordpress plugin, so the recommendation would definitely be installing the v5 version by following the steps outlined in the wordpress README.md documentation on Github. Also, just in case of an error occurring, this community thread might be useful, since it also provides a recent solution of installing the latest plugin.

Hope this helps, and if you have further questions please let me know!

Best regards,

Remus

That’s helpful, although now I’m troubleshooting Invalid State errors as discussed on this page https://auth0.com/docs/customize/integrations/cms/wordpress-plugin/troubleshoot-wordpress-plugin-invalid-state-errors

@remus.ivan along with releasing v5 of the plugin to the WordPress directory and updating the documentation to match, could the engineering team also commit to resolving this GitHub issue? That would have gone a long way to making the integration simpler.

thanks

Hi @neilo and sorry for the late reply.

I have reached out internally and just received a positive response that one of our Engineers will look deeper into the Github issue you have mentioned for providing a more well-rounded solution.

Thank you!

Regards,

Remus
