Roles are not available on the free dev plan, and app_metadata is generally discussed in the docs next to Roles. I can’t find any docs that state clearly whether app_metadata is or is not available on the free dev plan.

Any updates? There is no way for me to test this myself without waiting 30 days because test accounts have full paid permissions for the first 30 days.
Sorry for a small delay here. Yes app_metadata is available for all plans.
