How to Unlink Tenants

I found this post but as I’m on the free plan, I can’t contact the support, and while trying to figure it out how the new Team Member Invitation works, I’ve made several mistakes, and “link tenants” is the biggest one.

What I tried to achieve: invite new team members (took me a while to find the “manage tenant access” area.

Mistakes that I did:

  1. Linked two different Tenants (humaitrix.com and simplants.com)
  2. Trying to unlink them, i deleted the @humaitrix admin user, expecting that “if no user, humaitrix won’t be linked anymore”. Silly mistake, I lost access. Invited again, all good.

But my question is: how can I unlink or undo my mistake?

Thank you,
Daniel

Hi @daniel.santana

Welcome back to the Auth0 Community!

I believe what you mean by linking the tenants is that you have added both of them under the same team. By having both tenants under the same team, you will be able to access them without any issues. However, if you do not wish to have them under the same team, please review our documentation about removing a tenant from a team.

If you are unable to log into the removed tenant because they are no longer in the team, please let us know and we will help you recover access to it!

If you actually linked the tenants as mentioned here, let me know!

If you have any other questions, let me know!

Kind Regards,
Nik

Hi Nik, thanks for the fast reply.

I did the Tenants Linking as described in the link that you shared

Here is the outcome of my misunderstanding of the feature:

Except for me, working for both, Simplants and Humaitrix are completely different Tenants, unrelated. I have users with different email addresses on both.

How to undo?

Thanks in advance

Hi @daniel.santana

I am sorry about the delayed response to your inquiry!

Unfortunately, it is not possible to unlink tenants once the action has been performed.

The only suggestion that I can provide on this matter would be to create a new tenant and to export any necessary configuration to the new one.

I am sorry about the inconvenience this might cause you!

If I can help with anything else regarding the matter, let me know!

Kind Regards,
Nik

Thanks for your response, Nik.

Export sounds “easy” but I can’t find anything that allows me such thing.

I did some Auth0 documentation research, and I found this link that says:

You can use our Import/Export Extension to export nearly all data in your Auth0 tenant.

But opening this link redirects to the User Import/Export Extension, which is not what I was expecting.

Can you please clarify if there is a way to export the tenant data (applications), or if by “export”, you meant manually copy it?

Kind regards,
Daniel

In order to export/import tenant configurations, I would recommend to use Terraform. However, this should be possible with Deploy CLI as well.

You can read more about generating the tenant configuration here.

Kind Regards,
Nik
