Now without further ado, let’s get to know: @rueben.tiow!

Can you share a bit about yourself? What does a typical day look like for you?

Hi, my name is Rueben. I have been with Okta for 3 ½ years and am based in Washington. A typical day for me involves community moderation, which includes replying to and resolving our developer customers’ help questions. I also monitor our socials and community email inboxes to support our customers where they are.

What inspired you to become a community engineer at Auth0, and how did you get started in tech?

I was previously a Developer Support Engineer at Auth0. I wanted to transition to a Community Engineer position because it allowed me to retain similar responsibilities in a different capacity while being flexible enough to take on more projects that benefitted the team, such as building a robust knowledge base. I started in tech by graduating in computer science and joining Auth0/Okta after graduation.

Can you share a memorable or rewarding moment you’ve had while helping developers in the Auth0 Community?

There have been many memorable and rewarding moments while helping developers in the Community. One particular moment involved troubleshooting a developer’s user import/export jobs and writing code to help them with that task. It was extra rewarding because it not only resolved a critical blocker for them but also provided a reusable solution that other developers in the Community could benefit from. What made it even more fulfilling was that the developer was extremely appreciative, and they later shared how the solution helped their team automate user migrations more efficiently. Seeing my contribution have a lasting impact beyond just one person reinforced why I enjoy solving complex problems and supporting the Community.

Outside of your role as a community engineer, what’s something about you that people might be surprised to learn?

Outside of my role as a community engineer, I enjoy traveling to places I have never been or revisiting places I have not been in a long time. My last travel experience was in Hawaii and Malaysia. For my next trip, I will be going to Mexico.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone new to the Auth0 Community, what would it be?

My advice to someone new to the Auth0 Community is to approach learning iteratively and incrementally, building knowledge step by step. This way, you don’t burden yourself with learning a large piece of content all at once. But instead, make strides to learn it over time.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?

Outside of work, I enjoy going to restaurants to try new foods, and on days with better weather, I prefer riding my motorcycle.
