Clarification on Auth0’s Backup and Restore Policy for Public Cloud Tenants

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to clarify Auth0’s backup and restore policy, and I’ve come across conflicting information in the community.

In this thread, it sounds like Auth0 maintains some form of internal backups. However, in this other thread, the response states that Auth0 does not perform any backups at all for public cloud tenants.

Could someone clarify:

  • What data (if any) Auth0 backs up?
  • What is the scope of these backups?
  • How frequently are they taken?
  • Are these backups available or restorable for customers?

I’d appreciate any clarification on the official policy or best practices regarding data backup and restore for public cloud tenants.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @KouYuume,

Welcome to the Auth0 Community and thank you for your post!

In the initial thread that you have mentioned above is was stated that:

which refers strictly to internal, confidential backups.

So regarding Auth0’s backup and restore policy for private or public customers we should solely rely on the 2nd thread ( the Knowledge Article on Backup / Restore Policy for Public Cloud Tenants, which outlines that:

and provides a more comprehensive explanation compared to our documentation on the matter, that also specifies:

Auth0 will not transfer data from one Auth0 tenant to another. This applies to both Public Cloud and Private Cloud customers. All data in your Auth0 tenant is always under your control.

So in regards to best practices on data backup and restore for public cloud tenants I would recommend checking out this Knowledge Article about the options available to Backup your Auth0 Tenant/User Data.

Hope this helps!
Thanks,
Remus

Hi @remus.ivan ,

Thank you! I now have a clear understanding of the scope of Auth0’s backup and the responsibilities that operators should take on.
