I recently created an Auth0 account using email and password. During onboarding, a development tenant was automatically created in the US-5 region.
I need my tenant to be hosted in Europe (EU). When I try to create a new tenant, the dashboard displays:
“You have reached the limit for Tenants in your current plan. Upgrade your plan to create more tenants.”
I want to remain on Auth0 Free, without providing a credit card or subscribing to a paid plan.
The current US-5 tenant is not used in production. I have not created any OAuth application or configured any integration. I have not deleted anything yet.
Before taking an irreversible action, could an Auth0 team member please confirm:
Will manually deleting my only US-5 tenant release the Free tenant quota, allowing me to create a new tenant in Europe using the same account?
Is there a waiting period before the quota is released? If so, how long should I expect?
Are any additional account, team, or subscription steps required?
Will my dashboard account and email/password login remain available after deleting its only tenant?
If deletion does not reliably allow this replacement, what is the supported procedure to obtain an EU tenant while remaining on Free?
I also found this closely related case:
The user deleted their only tenant to change regions and then could not create a replacement. Creation eventually worked, but the resolution was not documented.
Before I delete my tenant, could you confirm how to avoid this situation and what assistance is available if my account remains blocked afterward?
I understand that tenant deletion is irreversible and that the deleted tenant name cannot be reused. I am happy to choose a different name for the EU tenant.
Please confirm the appropriate procedure before I delete the existing tenant. I do not want to upgrade my plan or delete my Auth0 account.
I understand that you have created your Free Auth0 account with a tenant in the US region, however you require a tenant to be hosted in EU region.
Recommended Solution
Your Auth0 account created via Email/Password is independent of any tenant it is linked to and you can safely delete the US tenant without affecting the integrity of your Auth0 account.
This is correct: deleting your US tenant will bring the quota back to 0 ( zero ) and allow you to create a new tenant under the same Auth0 account.
No official waiting period: after deleting your US tenant, you should not expect any significant downtime before being able to create a new tenant, however it is possible for the change to not be reflected immediately and a small delay might occur. Once the tenant has been deleted from your end, should be brought to the tenant creation page to setup a new tenant. If this does not occur automatically, you can attempt to access the Auth0 Login page with the Email/Password credentials.
Team specifics: it is possible that the new tenant will not be linked with the same Team as your US tenant, but have a new Team created where you will be automatically made Team Owner.
Your Auth0 account will not suffer changes: the same credentials and general account settings will be present after deleting your US tenant, however this does not account for any changes that you may have made ( if applicable ) to your account in relation to the US tenant.
Alternate solution: you are able to setup a Free Auth0 tenant at any time using a different account. If applicable, you can sign up for a new account using a Social Login method such as Google or GitHub even with the same email address, since Auth0 treats an Email/Password and a Google provisioned user as two distinct entities.
