Import/Export extension failing import with "An error occurred while uploading the file: Payload Too Large"

Problem statement

I am importing users into our development tenant. It’s a rather small file at less than 3MB in total size, but I am getting an error when importing:

Cause

  • 500KB is the limit for the bulk user import file size.

  • Reference: Bulk User Imports

  • This limit applies to importing with the extension and using the Management API.

Solution

Unfortunately, the 500KB size limit for the bulk user import file is by design. If you would like to see this size limit increased in a future release of Auth0, we encourage you to submit a feature request using this form: Auth0: Secure access for everyone.
