Creating a Second Passkey for the Same User on a Different Device

Overview

This article explains the process for enabling end users to add a second passkey on a different device, allowing them to switch between devices easily.

Applies To

  • Database Connections
  • Passkeys

Solution

For the user to be able to create another key on the new device, the following prerequisites must be satisfied:

  1. The Local enrollment for passkeys option must be turned on in the Database connection’s Passkey configuration
  2. The user must log in to the new device with the previous device’s passkey. This can be done by selecting the Continue with a passkey button

  3. Once the user logs in with the help of the other device, Auth0 will prompt the user with an option to create a new passkey for the current device.

The user can choose to create a new local passkey or continue without creating one. If they choose not to create a new one, they can still log in with the other device’s passkey.
