is there a way to set an expiration date for a permission? I’m asking because we would like to activate / deactivate features for certain users based on permissions.

While there isn’t an option to set an expiration date for permissions, you could certainly utilize the Management API for something like this - There is an endpoint to both remove permissions from a user as well as an entire role. I can see either working depending on how you have permissions assigned to users.
