Beyond the Desktop: Identity Hygiene for Builders

February 9, 2026, is observed as National Clean Out Your Computer Day. For most, this means clearing out downloads, updating software, or dusting off the keyboard. But for the Auth0 Community, it’s the perfect way to tackle a different kind of technical debt: Identity Sprawl. In a world of decentralized apps and complex auth flows, a cluttered environment isn’t just a productivity killer- it’s an unnecessary expansion of your attack surface.

To help with this, quickly perform a digital hygiene check on your identity perimeter using these four tips below:

  • Prune your tenants and social connections: Take a look at your staging tenants. Much like an old node_module folder, unused social connections and legacy test applications are just sitting there waiting. If you aren’t using them for a live project, rotate the secrets or deprecate them entirely.
  • Audit your Actions & Rules: For the builder, audit your Auth0 Actions. Deactivate old experiments and refactor your code to ensure your login flows are as lean as possible. A clean auth pipeline is a fast auth pipeline!
  • Tidy up your logs & monitoring: High-volume logs can mask actual anomalies. Take some time to refine your log streaming filters and ensure your dashboard only alerts you to what matters.
  • Sync with the Community: Post in the Forum and share your tips on how you’re automating your identity hygiene cleanup!
