Can you let us know if you are getting any error message when attempting to complete the account linking?
A first suggestion is to double-check that you have the correct database enabled and only one, as according to this Community Topic on Account linking - Second connection not tried - error: wrong username and password :
if multiple databases are enabled for an application, only one will be used and the others will not be searched through to see if the user exists elsewhere or if the password is valid
