I need to prevent signup by users with common email addresses (@gmail or @hotmail, for instance).
Can we add custom validation to input fields on the Universal Login? Can this only be accomplished with a totally custom signup form?

Go this way: login to the dashboard → Auth Pipeline → Rules → Create → Access Control → Email domain whitelist
