How to disable sign up when calling authorize() while still allowing API sign up

Hello!

We’re currently using universal login to authenticate users, but only want to enable sign up using the API. I’ve tried going to Connections → Database and hide the sign up button on the login screen, but this also disables sign up using the API (we have a custom sign up screen we want to use).

Is there a way to do this or are we SOL?
